While there are several examples of Patek Philippe diamond timepieces to hit the market there are very
few examples which are fully signed throughout and moreover there are extremely less ever produced in
platinum metal during this period as the present example exhibits. Patek Philippe has been known to also
supply movements only to jewelry design firms for their case designs as well and these examples are
very different as they are of a lower quality and often referred to as contract cases as a result making
them less valuable and are more common for this period by comparison.
Examples such as the present timepieces which are fully signed, designed and commissioned by Patek
Philippe including their case, dial, movement and crown are considered far more superior examples and
much more rare because Patek Phillipe’s involvement is from the start to finish and as a result the quality
of workmanship, diamonds set and engineering executed are the best of the best of the period making
such examples highly sought after and more collectible and valuable over the long term as well as notably
more beautiful by comparison.
Historically, Patek Philippe has been famously known for their extremely high level of craftsmanship and
also for their use of only the highest quality of available materials within their gemstone timepieces to
match their reputable workmanship. Very few timepieces during the 1950s and 1960s were produced by
the firm for their female clientele especially which more regularly is famed for their known vintage men's
timepieces and previously famous for their complicated gentleman’s pocket watches.
However, during Post World War Two, women began to become more empowered as a result of their
increased participation to help society during the time of war and the timepiece manufacturers and
jewelry houses recognized this new empowerment in society and began to focus more on the women's
market as new clients in need of timepieces which could be fashionable as well as functional. As a result,
specially ordered timepieces for important clients would be commissioned which would demand only the
very best timepiece designs and gemstones for a wide range of the world’s most prestigious clientele
from president’s wives to princesses and celebrities, alike. Most probably because of the scarcity which
existed for the metal platinum after the word wars, many firms also resorted back to the use of 18kt white
gold to design jewelry and diamond timepieces with since so much of platinum was depleted by the war
due to its use in the ammunition. However, as a means to still satisfy these very special client orders
Patek Philippe still produced a select few premier, made to order timepiece examples such as the present
example which combines art of watchmaking with history for a truly unique timepiece commissioned for
probably one of the firm’s most important clients. In addition, because Platinum was only implemented in
the firm’s best examples, the present timepiece is not only beautiful but also a sought after asset by
sophisticated collectors because it is one of the best forms of a Patek Philippe as an investment when
compared to other diamond timepieces.
Designed with 3 different styles of Diamond stone cuts:
1. Approximately 24 Baguette cut diamonds in graduated sizing
2. 4 Marquis cut
3. & last but not least, 28 Brilliant round cut diamonds
The present example exhibits the finest quality in gem setting by the world’s leading brand Patek
Philippe. Styled more specifically as a twisting Diamond motif, the present example has a total number of
approximately 46 diamonds all carefully set and color matched to produce a timepiece concept which is
fashion forward and timelessly iconic in design, making it a creation that is as in fashion today as it was
50 years ago. A creation which would have taken a tremendous amount of workmanship by a master
gem-setter during this period and would have been highly costly as a result of the limited materials and
Additionally, it is extremely versatile in style as it can be dressed down to be worn casually or styled for
the most premier of evening event as it has extremely high-quality VS 1 brilliant round cut stones
throughout. Furthermore, the design concept as a whole enables comfortable long-term wear with its
bracelet being designed as a platinum double rope mesh cord motif bracelet to maintain a sophisticated
style but also one the that allows its user to move their wrist freely.
