Celebrated Automatic Watches for Every Style
Since their introduction in the early 1960s, the wristwatches in the Seiko 5 Sports collection have impressed with their high-quality workmanship, attractive design, and fantastic value for money. Prices remain in the low to mid-hundreds, despite each model being equipped with an automatic in-house caliber, either the 4R36 or 7S36. A typical feature of these movements is the day-date display at 3 o'clock. The designs are sporty and range from that of pilot's watches and military watches to diving watches. Thanks to a water resistance of up to 100 m (10 bar, 328 ft), many models are suitable for swimming and snorkeling.
The 5 Sports collection is divided into five subseries: Sports Style, Suits Style, Specialist Style, Street Style, and Sense Style. Since all watches share the same blueprint, you'll spot the main differences in their design elements, colors, and bands. The Sports line is the simplest, with pilot's and diving watches in polished or satin-finished stainless steel. The Suits line specializes in stainless steel diving watches, some of which feature colorful dials. Seiko pairs these watches with a fine-link mesh bracelet.
The Specialist line includes stainless steel diving watches with black dials, as well as bronze and gold versions. The extensive Street and Sense lines offer particularly playful models in terms of color. Renowned Japanese artists were even involved in the design of the Sense series. The watches are limited and have the heftiest price tags in the Seiko 5 Sports collection.

You can buy Seiko 5 Sports watches for just over 170 USD. One example is the ref. SNZG15J1, which takes its design cues from classic pilot's watches. The ref. SNZG13 comes on a stainless steel bracelet and is only marginally more expensive. You can buy a diving watch like the 5 Sports ref. SNZF15J2 with a blue dial, red and blue bezel, and rubber strap for close to 285 USD. The 5 Sports ref. SRPE83K1 Brian May and other limited editions change hands for roughly 850 USD.
About the Seiko 5 Sports Style
The diving and pilot's watches in the Sports Style series are, like most Seiko 5 Sports models, available with different dial colors and on different bands. The ref. SRPG27K1 is one such pilot's watch, which Seiko pairs with a stainless steel bracelet. Its modest 39-mm case makes it a great choice for more slender wrists. The dial is black with luminescent indices and brushed Arabic numerals. The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 4R36, which offers a 41-hour power reserve, stop-seconds mechanism, and a day-date display at 3 o'clock. You can also watch the movement at work through the transparent case back.
Prices for this model in mint condition come in around 265 USD on Chrono24. If you like the style and price tag, but would prefer a blue dial, take a look at the ref. SRPG29K1. The model costs even less on a NATO strap, and you have more dial colors to choose from.
Seiko 5 Sports Style Divers
The ref. SRPD51K1 is a diving watch with a stainless steel bracelet. This model features an elegant blue sunburst dial surrounded by a blue bezel. The dial design is customary for a diver: mostly white dot hour markers, interrupted by bar indices at 6 and 9 o'clock, and a triangle at 12. The date and day of the week are displayed at 3 o'clock. The watch has a case diameter of 42.5 mm, meaning it's well suited for sturdier wrists. The caliber 4R36 ticks away inside this model. Unlike the pilot's watch with this movement, the crown is found at 4 o'clock, and not at 3. This is to prevent the crown from pressing uncomfortably against the back of the wearer's hand.
Expect prices for this reference to come in around 265 USD. The watch is available with different band and dial combinations. For example, if you would like a black dial and a black NATO strap, then the ref. SRPD55K3 is a great option at around 245 USD. If you're after something colorful for around the same price, the ref. SRPD59K1 features an orange dial and comes on a stainless steel bracelet.
5 Sports Suits & Specialist Diving Watches
The 5 Sports Suits series is home to a number of diving watches. These 42.5-mm timepieces all share the same automatic Seiko caliber 4R36, but differ in their bezels and color pallets. Seiko mounts most of these watches on a fine-link stainless Milanese bracelet, except for the ref. SRPD71K2 and ref. SRPD65K2, which come on a silicone strap. In addition, all variants have a transparent case back, so you can watch the movement at work. The dial design is that of a typical Seiko diver: dot indices broken up by bar hour markers at 6 and 9 o'clock, a triangle at 12, and a day-date display at 3.
As for dial colors, you can choose between champagne, ice blue, red, blue, black, and green. Listings for the ref. SRPD73K1 with a black dial on Chrono24 come in around 305 USD new. The ref. SRPD71K1 was given a blue dial and Milanese bracelet and changes hands for around 275 USD in mint condition. Lastly, the ref. SRPE77K1 features an ice blue dial and is valued at about 290 USD.
5 Sports Watches: Specialist Style
Seiko 5 Sports Specialist Style diving watches are all made of stainless steel and have a case diameter of 42.5 mm. Their general aesthetic follows in the footsteps of standard Seiko diving watches. As with the Suits Style series, the Seiko caliber 4R36 ticks away inside the Specialist Style watches. The crown is located at 4 o'clock.
The Specialist models stand out from the crowd with their color schemes. The ref. SRPE79K1 has a gray case, dial, and bezel. The case color is the result of a hard coating process, in which the stainless steel is ionized in a vacuum. This process is said to improve the steel's resistance to scratches. Seiko pairs the watch with a black silicone strap. Plan to spend around 345 USD on a new copy.
The stainless steel case of the ref. SRPE80K1 has an aged, bronze finish. The dial is black and has a gray, grainy texture. The hands, indices, and inscriptions are color-coordinated with the case. Expect to pay around 310 USD for a mint condition timepiece. If you're in the market for a Seiko diving watch with a rose gold look, then the ref. SRPD76K1 might be just what you're looking for. This reference also sells for around 310 USD. What's more, the Seiko 5 Specialist series also offers divers with more subtle design language. Take for example the ref. SRPD55K2: This model has a black dial, black bezel, and comes on a matching silicone strap. A mint-condition copy will set you back around 235 USD.
Prices for Seiko 5 Sports Street Style
The Seiko 5 Sports Street Style collection comprises a number of conventional Seiko 5 Sports diving and pilot's watches. If you're looking to add a bit of color to your wrist, the limited-edition divers are the right way to go. One example is the ref. SRPH65K1. The 42.5 mm case of this watch is made of stainless steel and coated in black. The dial features dot indices and street-art like designs in red. Red also fills the edge of the dial and the tip of the second hand. You'll find the caliber 4R36 inside the case and the crown at 4 o'clock. The dial pattern continues on the black silicone strap, which holds the watch securely on the wrist.
There were only 5,000 copies made of the ref. SRPH65K1. Plan to spend around 490 USD. Two other limited editions, the ref. SRPH71K1 with blue accents and the ref. SRPH69K1 with green and yellow details, come in at a similar price point.
The ref. SRPE71K1 is another diving watch with the familiar Seiko design and crown at 4 o'clock, but is completely silver. Although this reference uses the same caliber as the limited-edition models, it is much more affordable at around 245 USD. If you're looking for something gold and sparkly, check out the refs. SRPE72K1 and SRPE74K1. The former comes in a lush shade of rose gold, while the latter is yellow gold. Seiko continues the color scheme on the dial, hands, and bracelet; only the indices stand out on account of their white luminous material.
You can expect to pay around 320 USD on Chrono24 for one of these beautiful timepieces in mint condition. Those interested in a Seiko 5 Sports diving watch with a black case and blue accents on the indices, hands, and bezel, should take a look at the ref. SRPD81K1. This reference costs roughly 380 USD.
The reference numbers SRPH29K1, SRPH31K1, and SRPH33K1 were released in 2021 and are the pilot's watches of the Seiko 5 Street Style series. All variants share a 39.4-mm stainless steel case, which is coated in black on the ref. SRPH33K1. As for dial colors, you can choose between green, blue, and black, and matching nylon straps. The hours are marked with luminescent indices, which are white on the first two references and orange on the black version. The tried-and-true caliber 4R36 keeps these models ticking and provides them with their crown and day-date display at 3 o'clock. At the time of writing, there were no listings for these references on the Chrono24 marketplace. Seiko's recommended retail price for all three models is 275 USD.
Seiko 5 Sense Style: Prices & Details
The Seiko 5 Sense Style collection is home to many limited-edition models, all of which stand out from the rest of the 5 Sports lines in terms of colors and designs. This is also thanks to the Japanese designers and artists who were involved in their conception.
The ref. SRPG65K1 was created in collaboration with Japanese artist Guccimaze. The watch is made of stainless steel and measures 42.5 mm across. It also uses the caliber 4R36, making it technically identical to its counterparts in the Seiko 5 Sports series. The most significant difference is seen in the design of the dial and bezel. The black and gray dial, elaborately decorated with Guccimaze designs, only has two hour markers as well as a yellow minute track. However, the day and date display are retained at 3 o'clock. The bezel is blue and black, with Arabic numerals designed by the artist at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock. You'll have to look closely, however: they are rather camouflaged in the loud design.
This unconventional timepiece is limited to a run of 1,500 pieces and costs around 460 USD in mint condition.
The ref. SRPG43K1 is the brainchild of Japanese artist Auto Moai. Unlike Guccimaze, Moai opted for luminescent indices to ensure high legibility. The rest of the watch is patterned with Moai's "faceless figures" motif, which can be found on the dial, bezel, bracelet, and case back. The art focuses on the topic of anonymity, which Auto Moai attempts to convey through their figures.
There are no surprises when it comes to technology: you'll find the caliber 4R36 inside the case and a day-date display and crown at 4 o'clock. This watch was also limited to 1,500 copies, and costs about 480 USD new.
More Limited Seiko 5 Sense Style Models
One particularly popular Sense Style model is the ref. SRPF94K1 limited to 1,500 copies. The case of this diving watch is completely gold-plated, while the dial, bezel, and silicone strap are black. An unusual detail for a Seiko diver is the diamond-shaped indices. The golden logo of the skateboard brand Evisen acts as the hour market at 12 o'clock. The workhorse caliber 4R36 powers the watch. Expect a mint-condition piece to set you back around 480 USD.
Another highly sought-after model is the ref. SRPF69K1. This Seiko watch is limited to 6,500 copies. The 42.5-mm stainless steel watch has a blue dial, gray-blue rotating bezel ring, and blue NATO strap with a silver stripe. The applied, triangular indices are another interesting detail. This model changes hands for around 470 USD new.
The ref. SRPF24K1 plays with the colors gold, red, and yellow. While the case and bezel shine in gold, the dial and nylon strap are red and yellow. This version also features a date magnifier above the day-date window at 3 o'clock. The caliber 4R36 powers the bold timepiece. This reference is limited to 9,999 pieces and costs around 395 USD new.
