Chronograph

Description

This rare Eberhard Pre-Extra Fort chronograph boasts a sizable 40mm stainless steel case, a feature that was considered large back in the 1940s but is now standard. The original salmon dial showcases a telemeter scale around the edge and a snail-shaped tachymeter scale in the center, offering a unique multi-scale design. Symmetry is enhanced by the registers at three and nine o’clock aligning with the center post. The dial also boasts a silver ring around the hour markers, creating an appealing two-tone effect that complements the salmon hue and blued steel hands.

Despite featuring two buttons on the three o’clock side, this chronograph operates as a single-button (monopusher) design, with start, stop, and reset functions controlled by the pusher at two o’clock. The button below the crown serves as a slide lock to prevent accidental activation of the chronograph.

This example features a dial that has likely undergone professional cleaning and retouching in the past, presenting itself with a restored appearance. However, it still retains its unique character and patina, showcasing the charm of a well-lived timepiece. While the non-lume dial and hands may exhibit signs of this restoration, they add to the watch's appeal. Eberhard's single-button chronographs offer exceptional value, especially considering their size, rarity, and the presence of an in-house movement.
